The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Adamu, has announced the choice of Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the ruling party’s consensus presidential candidate.
Adamu disclosed this at the meeting of the Nation Working Committee (NWC) that he presided over on Monday in Abuja.
However, other aspirants would be allowed to contest the primary election at the special convention on Tuesday.
They are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Rotimi Amaechi, David Umahi, among others.
Meanwhile, Northern APC Governors are insisting that power must shift to the southern part of the country after the expiration of President Buhari’s tenure on May 29, 2023.
Governor Simon Lalong, Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, made their decision known after a meeting with the President attended by 13 of the 14 Northern Governors.
Lalong also disclosed that President Buhari asked them to consult with the party leadership to resolve the issue of consensus candidate.
