The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Enugu State, says no graduate of Science and Laboratory Technology (SLT), was denied registration for the 2024 Batch B Stream II, Orientation programme.
Mrs Christiana Salmwang, the Coordinator of NYSC in Enugu State, made the clarification during a news conference on Tuesday, at the NYSC orientation camp, Awgu, Enugu State.
She said that all the 101 SLT graduates from various institutions sent to Enugu State for the NYSC orientation programme, were duly documented and registered like all others mobilised for the camp.
The Enugu NYSC office was responding to the allegation by the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), that SLT graduates from polytechnics were denied registration at the Enugu camp.
NANS alleged that the affected graduates were denied registration due to lack of Professional Certification with the National Institute for Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT).
Salmwang, who dismissed the allegations, displayed evidence of documentation and records of the mobilised SLT graduates.
“None of the SLT graduates was denied registration, they were fully registered without demanding for any kind of professional certificate.
“All the 101 male and female graduates of SLT from all diverse institutions were duly registered for the orientation programme,” she said.
Some of the SLT corps members from various institutions, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), confirmed that they were registered at the camp.
They said they were not denied registration or asked to present any licence from any professional body as a condition for access into the camp.
Mr Ben Jiji from Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, said that he was not asked to present any professional certificate during their orientation programme registration.
Miss Margret Benjamin, from Rivers State Polytechnic, said that the registration was seamless as she was registered like every other graduate at the camp.
Miss Blessing Ikegwuonu, from the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu, also said she was not aware of such requirement during the registration as no NYSC official demanded any kind of professional certificate from her.
Also, Mr Ayodeke Wahab, from the Ogun State Institute of Technology, also confirmed that his registration at Awgu orientation camp was stress-free. (NAN).
