The Integrity Youth Alliance has said that the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited under the management of Malam Mele Kyari is not shielding its subsidiaries from honouring several parliaments’ summons extended to them over audit queries raised against them.
Reacting to an allegation by the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday accusing the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited of shielding its subsidiaries from honouring several parliament’s summons extended to them over audit queries raised against them running into several trillions of Naira over the years, the Board Chairman of Integrity Youth Alliance said that since the appointment of Mal Mele Kyari, he has anchored his agenda entitled “Roadmap to Global Excellence” to Transparency, Accountability and Performance Excellence” (TAPE).
The statement read, “In line with his promise, Kyari has introduced the programme, popularly known as Transparency, Accountability, and Performance Excellence (TAPE), which involves the opening up of the books of the corporation in a way no other GMD has done before.
“Therefore, he cannot shield the subsidiaries under the NNPC Limited because the transparency component of his agenda is aimed at maintaining a positive image and sharing values of integrity and transparency with all stakeholders, while the accountability leg of the agenda is to assure compliance with business ethics, policies, regulations and accountability to all stakeholders.
“Also, Kyari’s Performance Excellence initiative is to entrench a high level of efficiency anchored on the efficient implementation of business processes, which would also embed an appropriate reward system for exceptional performance among the workforce.
“We wish to notify the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that Mal Mele Kyari holds the legislators in high regard and that is why the National Assembly applauded the Group Managing Director, Mallam Mele Kyari, for launching the Transparency, Accountability, and Performance Excellence (TAPE) agenda to propel the oil and gas industry.
“It is also on record that the former Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum, Upstream, Hon. Musa Sarkin-Adar described Kyari’s leadership as visionary, saying, ‘I am encouraged that we are having somebody with foresight ready to move the corporation from where it is to the next level’.
We, therefore, call on the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee (PAC) under the Chairmanship of Hon. Oluwole Oke to give the NNPC Management time as they are doing all possible to ensure Nigerians enjoy uninterrupted fuel supply across the country, the statement said.
