ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari Friday held a closed-door meeting with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu.
The meeting was held at the new Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Although, there was no official statement about the meeting, it is however believed that it was in connection with the confidential memo the Minister sent to the President which is now in public domain
After the meeting, Minister Kachikwu declined to speak with State House correspondents.
Prompt News recalls that the Minister had in the leaked memo accused the
Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Maikanti Baru of insubordination.
Mr Kachikwu, specifically alleged that the NNPC GMD awarded oil contracts to the tune of $25 billion without the approval of the NNPC Board which he chairs.
The Minister therefore, prayed to the President to order the cancellation of the recent key appointments made by the NNPC Boss without the knowledge of the Board.
Surprisingly, President Buhari did not act on the memo which was leaked to the media earlier in the week and now a major national issue.
