The Nigeria National League (NNL) Executive Board which met in Abuja at the weekend has resolved to tackle football hooliganism headlong to stem the tide of incessant attacks on match officials by club officials, players and supporters across the country.
The board has also warned that any club that is indebted to NNL will not be allowed to feature in the league when the second stanza commences next week just as it was agreed upon that the second tier league will observe a break when the FIFA World Cup starts in Brazil from June 12, 2014 as mark of solidarity for the Super Eagles of Nigeria which will be participating in the global football fiesta.
These were the highlights of the one day meeting of the NNL Executive Board headed by Emeka Inyamain Abuja which was attended by a full house of the board members from across the country.
According to the communiqué signed by the secretary of the board, Lawrence Katken, ‘‘the board frowns at reports of the assaults on match officials by club officials, players and supporters as well as the cases of inducement of match officials. It was resolved that such matters will not be condoled in the second stanza of the league’’.
