The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the deaths of four individuals following a suspected terrorist attack on its facilities at the Kangiwa border in Kebbi State.
In a statement released by the NIS Public Relations Officer, DCI Kenneth Udo, the attack occurred at approximately 7:20 PM on Friday, January 10, 2025. The victims included a local watchman and three contractors working at the site.
While the attack caused significant damage to security facilities, Udo confirmed that no immigration officers were killed.
The NIS extended condolences to the families of the victims and assured the public that efforts were underway, in collaboration with other security agencies, to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Despite the tragedy, the NIS reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its core responsibility of securing the nation’s borders and ensuring national security.
The statement read, “The Nigeria Immigration Service regrets to announce that on Friday, January 10, 2025, at about 7:20 PM, suspected terrorists attacked our facilities at the Kangiwa border in Kebbi State. The attack resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a local watchman and three contractors. Substantial damage was also sustained to security facilities, though no immigration officers were killed.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. We are working closely with sister agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The NIS remains unwavering in its mission to secure the nation’s borders and uphold national security.”
