Nigeria’s senior women national team, the Super Falcons were impressive in their 6-0 loss to the national Under-17 male side, Golden Eaglets Friday morning at the FIFA Goal Project pitch in Abuja.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board member, Mohammed Fresh, Chief technical officer Lagunju Siji, Coach Emmanuel Amuneke of the Golden Eaglets who watched the game were full of praise for the girls who have had just two training sessions before the match.
Fresh commended the Super Falcons for playing the Golden Eaglets for a period of time before conceding defeat adding that with more training the girls would not only get better but regain their lost glory.
Amuneke on his part said that the girls gave his boys a good game pointing out that the Falcons at such short notice have shown that they are set to regain their place as the best in women football in Africa.
Super Falcons media officer, Gracious Akujobi reports that Golden Eaglets led by two goals at interval before scoring four more in the second half.
Chief Coach of the Super Falcons, Edwin Okon expressed delight at the performance of the girls against a male national side, noting that with time they would improve.
“I am impressed with the way my girls played today after only two days training. With more time together and a couple of friendly matches more, I think we should be ready to face Cameroon.
“We have noticed some flaws in the team which we shall work upon before we play another game. I never knew the girls could play that well after barely two days of training. It is a good beginning and I believe the girls would deliver” he said.
The match was played for 30 minutes for each half.
