Nigerian Senate again, on Wednesday, declined to confirm Mr Ibrahim Magu as substantive chairman of the Anti-Graft Agency, EFCC.
The Senate cited security reasons in rejecting his nomination. This was the same reason given when he was rejected late last year that President Muhammadu Buhari first submitted his name for confirmation.
Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) had called the attention of his colleagues to security report from the Secret Police, DSS, submitted to the office of Senate Clerk on Tuesday, 14th March 2017, which states in part:
“In the forgoing, MAGU has failed the integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti graft agency”.
But, Mr Magu promptly dismissed the report, questioning the integrity of the DSS.
According to him, “What does it means if an institution submits two reports on same day that tells you the integrity of such institution.”
Also, while answering various questions put across to him, Magu recalled how Police locked him up longer than necessary, saying “I was locked longer than necessary for over 2 weeks, I was detained with armed robbers at Area 10.
“Another allegation was that, I was living in an apartment which belongs to Air Commodore Mohammed Umar. The truth was that, I was staying in Karu and was almost late for official assignment, so the authority got a new place for me.”
Prompt News recalls that Magu has been serving as EFCC chairman in acting capacity since November 2015, when he was appointed by the President.
