Newly appointed Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Emmanuel Amuneke has welcomed his appointment but insists that it calls for hardwork by everyone involved in ensuring that Nigeria qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Speaking exclusively to Prompt News on Tuesday from his base in Barcelona, Spain, Amuneke who acknowledged that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) contacted him to be involved in the managerial setup of the Super Eagles revealed that he accepted to come on board because of his passion for the game and love for the country.
According to him: “the leadership of NFF contacted me for the Super Eagles job and I must say that I had the choice to reject or accept but my burning passion for the game and love for fatherland made me to agree to come on board to contribute to the success of Super Eagles going forward “.
Amuneke who is currently a Member of FIFA and Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Technical Study Group (TSG) however disclosed that the job is not an easy one as it will require the corporation of all to succeed.
Said he: “the job of managing the Super Eagles is tough.The hardwork starts now for everyone involved including the players themselves. I will give my best so that together we shall work to make the Super Eagles a strong team, to win games to make Nigerians at home and abroad happy again, God willing “.
A former Nigerian international, FIFA World Cup star, Atlanta’96 Olympics Gold medallist and former Head Coach of Golden Eaglets that won the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chilean as well as former African Footballer of the Year Award Winner, Amuneke was drafted in as immediate as the Chief Coach and 1st Assistant to Technical Adviser Coach Augustine Eguavoen.
The Super Eagles are expected to hit camp in Abuja in the next FIFA Window in March when the final two-legged qualifier matches will take place with Ghana Black Stars hosting Super Eagles in the first leg in Ghana.
