The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to host the 10th Africa Water Facility (AWF) Anniversary Celebration. The 3 day event is slated for Wednesday 25th to Friday 27th November 2015.
Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu will declare open the Governing Council Meeting on Thursday November 26th while the 10th AWF Anniversary celebration will take place on Friday 27th November, 2015.
The Chairman, Local Organizing Committee and Director of Water Supply of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Engr. Rufus Onyeanusi disclosed this in Abuja.
He said the theme of the event anchors on Fund Raising/ Replenishment of Water Fund. Nigeria is equally expected to make a commitment to the replenishment of the Water Fund as part of its obligation to the regional body.
The 3 day event will take place at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, with over 294 participants comprising the Governing Council Members which Nigeria is a member; as well as observers, donor partners, potential partners, beneficiaries and AFDB representatives.
The African Water Facility is managed by African Development Bank (AfDB) as an initiative of the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW). This is to assist African countries mobilize resources for water and sanitation sector in order to meet up with the MDGs/SDGs related to water and sanitation goals; tagged Africa Water Vision 2025.
It also provides political leadership, policy direction and advocacy in the provision, use and management of water resources for sustainable social development and maintenance of ecosystem.
