Prince Okpole Niger State Government is set to build 90 units of houses dubbed ‘three-arm zone in the outskirts of Minna, the state capital, in the sum of N3.1 billion.
Consequently, it has awarded the contract for the project while physical development has commenced on several hectares of land already acquired for that purpose.
Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Dr Peter Salle Sarki who disclosed this at a news conference said the project would be funded with proceeds from the sale of some government buildings in Minna.
According to him, “the houses which will be in three categories are meant for the very high members of the society, 30 units of the houses will be in the 5 bedroom detached bungalow, 4 type ‘A’ detached bungalow and the rest 4 type ‘B’ buildings.”
“Over N3.1bn will be spent on the project, and work on the projects will commence this week. The first phase of the project will be completed within the next 6 months.
“Funding of the project will be from the money realized from the sales of some Government buildings in Minna while the balance had been provided for in the 2014 budget of the Ministry.
“Following the almost 100% completion of the housing estate projects at Bida and Kontagora and the complaints by the developers that vandals are vandalizing parts of the houses the government has decided to construct perimeter for the two projects to safeguard them against vandals.
“About N148.9m will be spent on the project which will also include the provision of police posts”.
