The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), on Saturday inaugurated a former President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Mr. Mustafa Shehu as its new Board of Trustee Chairman (BoT).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NIEEE at a virtual inauguration led by its national chairman, Mr Kings Adeyemi who also doubled as the chairman swore in a seven man BoT members.
Shehu a fellow of the NSE and other professional bodies and current Vice President, World Federal of Engineering Organisations (WFEO) said the composition of the board was robust for quality service delivery.
The new board chairman who was also a past President of Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO), pledged his commitment and loyalty to the growth of the association.
Shehu also commended the leadership of the NIEEE for progress made so far.
“I am formally accepting this responsibility to chair this board for the next four or three years God willing.
“And it will be my hope and aspiration that all of us will team up together to take NIEEE to a much greater height than we have taken it,’’ he said.
Shehu announced his plans to run as President of the World Federal of Engineering Organisations (WFEO) in 2021 and solicited the support of NIEEE and other engineering bodies.
Earlier, NIEEE National Chairman, Mr. Kings Adeyemi who was the inaugural Chairman while delivering his speech lauded the calibre of experts in the BoT drawn from the academia, government and private sector.
Adeyemi said the institute was strategic and would continue to work through its new BoT to continue to “impact homes across Nigeria’’ positively.
He urged the members to build on the achievements of its past leaders to uplift the NIEEE.
“Let us fight to register our foot print in the sands of time,’’ he said.
He listed achievements to include a new office accommodation in a high brow area in Abuja, as well as recruitment of staff for the edifice while soliciting support towards construction of its permanent secretariat.
He said the bye-law of the association made it mandatory that the BoT, the highest decision making organ shall comprise seven members which must include two high ranking executives of the association.
While quoting relevant sections of the association’s constitution, he enumerated the roles of the board to include advisory, mentorship, hearing of ethical practice as well as other professional, administrative and other issues.
Adeyemi said that the members sworn into office had two months earlier being ratified by the AGM in line with NIEEE laws.
“To the glory of that Almighty God, this maiden BoT is hereby inaugurated and the meeting is hereby declared open,’’ he said.
Deputy National Chairman, NIEEE, Mr. Michael while moving the motion for the adjournment of the meeting applauded the capacity of the new BoT chairman to lift the institute to a new level.
Other members of the committee as well as engineers in attendance also praised Shehu’s character of humility and resilience in pursuit of objectives and goals of the association.
The board members included, the national Chairman, Mr Kings Adeyemi and his deputy, Mr. Michael Akan as members alongside Prof. Chris Nwabueze, Mr. Adekunle Makinde, Mr. Baruwa Olatunji and Mr. Olice Kemenanabo.
NIEEE, established 36 years ago, has 28 national chapters with three broad sub-divisions of electrical engineering fields of Power Engineering, Telecoms and ICT as well as the Instrumentation and Control Sections. (NAN)
