By Paul Efiong, ABUJA. An international Non-Governmental Organization known as African Legacy International rounded up its 2nd business summit in Abuja on Thursday with a call on the federal government to create conducive business environment to attract foreign investors.
Speaking while declaring the summit open in Abuja, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Organization, Engr Innocent Ogu lamented poor leadership, economy, poor governance culture as well as arbitrary use of state apparatus at all levels of governance in Africa.
According to Engr. Ogu,” the 2nd Emerging Business Destination Summit has become an annual event with global import and relevance considering the array of distinguished personalities that were present, our huge commitments towards the event and impact recorded in the past which we hope to translate into reality during the event and in the future.”
He disclosed that the summit remains inevitable in order to proffer solution to the endemic issues bedevilling Nigeria and Africa history which has for many decades plunged Africa into avoidable poverty, conflicts and uncertain political future of monumental consequences.
In an interview, the Chairman Board Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Anambra state, chief Ezekiel Irmiya Afukonyo, said that since Nigeria is blessed with various human and natural resources, she is now an automatic business hub for the world, claiming that major countries of the world are now envious of Nigeria owing to her intellectual and population strength.
Chief Afukonyo maintained that even though there are pocket of political issues and crisis in Nigeria, such could never scare investors away because of comparative advantage in Nigeria and other countries of the world.
He lamented that Nigeria despite huge resources embedded on her by divine providence yet to make a break through in science and agriculture because of bad leadership.
He also spoke about his political life alleging that his opponents perpetrated trouble in the state which led to an inconclusive primary election of his party primary in Taraba state.
Earlier, Chief Afukonyo had appealed to his party fans and supporters to remain calm and peaceful as he is, hoping to see better days ahead.
While rooting support for President Buhari’s second term bid, he said what the national Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole is facing is his personal problem not that of the party.
The high point of the event was presentation of awards to deserving members and countries who have worked to improve bilateral relationship with Nigeria and other African countries as well as the launching of an in-house magazine, beauty Pageant and investiture of new and old members.
