An NGO, Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), says its goal for 2020 is to provide interventions to no fewer than one thousand indigent patients in the hospitals across Lagos State.
Its Managing Director, Mr Paschal Achunine, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos, saying the organisation has won the BEST SUPPORTING NGO in the state.
Health Emergency Initiative (HEI) is a non-profit that primarily provides funds for emergency treatment to indigent patients in public hospitals in the state.
It advocates and provides funds for POST CRASH CARE. This is to enhance emergency treatment of road traffic accident victims as HEI poses as their NEXT OF KIN to provide funds for resuscitation and stabilisation of accident victims.
Achunine said: “Our goal for 2020 is to provide interventions to over one thousand indigent patients in hospitals from the current figure of 497.
“This involve incorporate more hospitals, and we hope to increase this number in future.
“Our current collaboration with Sterling Bank means that our capacity to meet the expectations of the indigent patients has received a further boost.”
He said that the NGO’s programmes were tailor-made to touch everyday medical needs of ordinary Nigerians and those in vulnerable, trauma and emergency situations.
According to him, Malaria, Typhoid, Sepsis, Cholera, Diarrhoea, Pneumonia, Meningitis, one-off blood transfusion and oxygen and other primary healthcare cases account for over 60 per cent of deaths among Nigerians.
“We also to provide post-crash care for critically injured road traffic accident victims taken to the public hospitals by emergency agencies to receive resuscitation and stabilisation,” he said.
Achunine said that the organisation has won the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Medical Social Services Department’s award for the best supporting NGO in Lagos.
He said the award signaled that more succour, support and assistance would come to the indigents.
The managing director said that the organisation was truly motivated to do more adding, “the award is a morale booster to the organisation and its partners’’.
He said that the award had reinforced the credibility and effectiveness of HEI as a genuine non-profit organisation committed to saving lives by giving swift financial assistance to patients in the public health institutions.
Achunine said that the NGO was looking forward to gaining more trust and support of corporate bodies and private individuals during fulfillment of its lifesaving goals, mission and vision.
He said that HEI was awarded the BEST SUPPORTING NGO because it worked with almost all the government hospitals in Lagos State.
Achunine said that the organisation’s ability to swiftly provide financial assistance to indigent patients distinguished and qualified it for the award.
