Members of the NFF Congress – the highest decision –making body in Nigeria football have stated categorically that they would not be involved in any fresh elections or bye-elections into the Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation.
Ephraim Chukwuemeka, the Chairman of the Abia State Football Association, who is the recognized leader of the NFF Congress, spoke on behalf of the Chairmen of the 36 State Football Associations and the FCT, and other Congressmen, against the background of a recommendation by Okey Ajunwa for by-elections into some NFF Executive Committee positions.
“The NFF Congress was appropriately convoked in Warri, Delta State on Tuesday, 30th September, 2014 and we conducted one of the fairest elections ever seen or possible. The Congress gave Mr. Amaju Pinnick and other members of the NFF Board a four –year tenure.
“As far as we are concerned, the next time the Congress will be convoked for elections into NFF Executive Committee is in four years’ time. We are not aware of any elections being planned by anybody for any period earlier than that time.”
Chukwuemeka urged the Congress members to forgive Ajunwa, chairman of the NFF Electoral Appeals Committee, for his ignorance.
“Apparently, the young man is misguided. Nigeria football is not Okey Ajunwa and Sons; it is a big, wonderful family where the view of the majority prevails. There is no way we can adopt a minority report. It is not done.
“In case he is not aware, there is no step he will take that will split the family again. We are one indivisible unit and we are committed to supporting the Amaju Pinnick –led Board to take our football to the top once more. We do not want any distractions. I hereby use this opportunity to wish every member of the NFF Congress a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year,” Chukwuemeka concluded.
