The Salt City Football Club of Abakaliki, newly floated by the Ebonyi government, has rescheduled its screening exercise for the recruitment of quality players.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the club, due to compete in the 2021/22 season of the national league, had earlier fixed the screening to commence on Oct.27.
The rescheduling, announced in a statement signed by the club’s Team Manager, Felix Odionye, and made available to NAN on Wednesday, revealed that the screening would now commence on Nov.2.
“We want to give more publicity to the exercise as we have been inundated with calls from players across the state and beyond, on participation.
“This is the first club to be floated by the government since the disbandment of the Ebonyi Angels and Ebonyi Queens football clubs in 2007,” he said.
The team manager said that the exercise would still be conducted in phases and the venue remained the Pa Ngele Oruta stadium, Abakaliki.
The first phase will hold from Nov.2 – 3, between 10 am and 4 pm, for players from Ebonyi South senatorial zone, including Ivo, Ohaozara, Onicha, Afikpo North and Afikpo south Local Government Areas, that make up the zone, he said.
For players from Ikwo, Ishielu, Ezza North and Ezza South LGAs in the Ebonyi Central zone, the screening would hold between Nov. 4 – 5, also between 10.am to 4.pm, while players from Ebonyi North senatorial zone would take their turn between Nov. 9 – 10 at the same time.
“The exercise will involve players from Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Izzi and Ohaukwu LGAs which make up the zone,” he said, adding that open and final screening of players selected from the first phase, has been scheduled to hold between Nov.11-12 from 9am to 4pm daily.
“This exercise will also include exceptional players selected from other states of the country.
“The final phase of the exercise commences on Nov.15 with close training and engagement of the selected players in friendly matches. This is to ensure that we present a formidable team in readiness for the football season”, the team manager said.
“We, however, note that during the screening, the players would be expected to cater to their personal needs,” he added. (NAN)
