Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the newly appointed Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, visited the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) on Tuesday, a day after her election, to seek their endorsement and support.
In her remarks, Meranda explained that her visit was to inform the GAC about the events at the Assembly the previous day and to request their blessings. She confirmed that she had received their approval.
The GAC, Lagos’s top decision-making body for the ruling party, met with Meranda and other principal officers in a private session at Lagos House, Marina.
Afterward, Meranda expressed her appreciation for their backing, stating, “We briefed the GAC on the Assembly’s proceedings and sought their blessings, which we’ve successfully received.”
Although the GAC, led by Tajudeen Olusi, chose not to speak to the media following the meeting, it was understood that the session had a positive outcome.
Meranda’s election followed the impeachment of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who is currently out of the country. Obasa was removed on Monday after being accused of misconduct and financial mismanagement.
The Assembly also took immediate action by removing the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, and dissolving all standing committees.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was not present at the meeting, as he had left the country on Monday for an official engagement.
