The Labour Party’s candidate for the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi has stirred reactions in Nigeria with his candid remarks about the rising popularity of crossdresser Bobrisky.
On the Honest Bunch podcast with Nedu Wazobia, Obi discussed Bobrisky’s heated disputes with Verydarkman, the Falanas, the EFCC, and the Nigerian Correctional Service—topics that have caused significant debate and anger among the public.
Prompt News reports that rather than adding to the controversy, Obi’s comments highlighted what he sees as a serious national distraction.
Obi asked why the country focuses so much on a crossdresser’s life when there are many serious problems affecting the nation.
He joked that if the government made laws that favored women, those who criticize Bobrisky might be the first to start crossdressing just to get by, which made everyone in the studio laugh.
Obi’s comments were funny, but they sparked a strong reaction. Some people supported his views on misplaced priorities, seeing his words as a way to point out the silliness of worrying about minor issues.
On the other hand, not everyone found it funny. Critics quickly brought up a personal issue, accusing Obi of being a hypocrite because of his son Oseloka’s supposed ties to the LGBTQ community.
