Nigerian comedian and filmmaker AY Makun has drawn widespread reactions online after lamenting the perceived lack of support he receives from his male peers in the entertainment industry.
On 23rd of November, 2024, AY took to X to express his frustration, writing, “One day man go tell man, ‘wetin man do man.’ We work so hard to stay relevant and take care of our responsibilities. Must we have breast and yansh to have the support of our fellow men?”
He added, “I am still the only man left in the business of filmmaking who is yet to give it all up. THE WAITER is a beautiful movie. I will continue to PERSONALLY push it with my full chest in cinemas nationwide. I am too legit to quit. #thewaitermovie.”
AY’s post quickly sparked heated debates, with some accusing him of diminishing the accomplishments of others in the industry, particularly female counterparts.

One critic responded, “Reducing the likes of Funke Akindele‘s success to having ‘breast and nyash’ lmao! So Funke and Co have the support of your fellow men because of breast and nyash? Uncle, the world has already gone mad.”
Others called out his claim of being the “only man left” in filmmaking, citing names of other male filmmakers thriving in Nollywood.
“Femi Adebayo doesn’t have breasts, though. And I’ve not seen Kunle Afolayan’s breasts. Or Niyi Akinmolayan’s breasts. Or Kayode Kasum’s breasts. Maybe the problem has not been properly diagnosed,” one user quipped.
Another added, “How can you claim you are the only man left in the business of filmmaking? That’s not true. Even Basketmouth just produced a movie.”
One user sarcastically suggested, “Since you people always like to attribute nonsense to women’s success, you have yansh, you have preek, use it. If e no big reach, go for implants.”
