The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Tuesday distributed relief materials to victims of flood disaster in some local government areas of Ekiti.
The Director-General of NEMA, Dr Ahmed Habib, said the beneficiaries were victims of the August 17, 2021 incident in Ado-Ekiti/Irepodun-Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Habib, who was represented by Mr Segun Afolayan, NEMA Head of Operations for Ondo, Osun and Ekiti Office, said the disaster affected the victims’ property and means of livelihood.
He said the items included foodstuffs, building materials and other household materials.
“The relief materials we are distributing to the victims are intended to cushion the effect of the disaster on them,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Steve Fatoba, a lawmaker, representing Ado Ekiti/Irepodun-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, commended NEMA for bringing succour to the victims.
Fatoba appealed to the corporate bodies, non-govermental organisations and public-spirited individuals to come to the aid of the victims.
Also, Mr Jide Borode, the Chairman, State Emergency Management Agency, said the NEMA intervention came, following the report of SEMA’s on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas.
Borode said the flood claimed many lives and also destroyed farmlands and houses in the affected communities. (NAN)
