The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced environmental beautification training for 20 youths as part of its poverty reduction mandate.
The Director-General, NDE, Mr Nuhu Fikpo, said on Friday in Yenagoa, that the training was being conducted under the Environmental Beautification Training Scheme (EBTS)
He said that the three months training was aimed at equipping the youths with the necessary skills to operate within the housing sector.
Represented by the Bayelsa Coordinator, Mr Aham Osuchukwu, the D-G said that the training would take the participants through courses in aesthetics, protection, ornamentation, finishing among other skills.
Fikpo said that the EBTS, being implemented across the 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, was one of the laudable schemes of the directorate.
“The aim is to equip the youths with skills to create decent jobs, the scheme promotes environmental renewal in communities.
“It is offering skills in aesthetics, protection, sanitation, ornamentation, finishing among others,” he said.
The D-G stated that EBTS had a combination of three skill sets such soft and hard landscaping, and Plaster of Paris making.
“The soft landscaping skill includes, landscape designing, raising of nurseries, planting and maintenance of grasses, shrubs, hedges, flower and tree planting.
“The hard landscaping set includes, casting, decoration of columns, beams windows, parapets, construction and decoration of water fountains, floor and wall tiling.
The scheme also involves fixing and maintenance of interlocking stones, bricks, block moulding, suspended ceiling, 3D decorations, concrete paving, slabs, kerbs stones, ballusters and rings,” he said.

In his vote of thanks, Mr Nengi Wilson, a participant, commended the NDE for the training, describing it as well-intended.
He said that the training would help them to unlock opportunities within the housing sector.
