The National Council of Women Society (NCWS) has condemned the maltreatment of a corp member by a female military officer
The National President of the Council, Mrs Laraba Shoda, condemned the act in a statement on Thursday, in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that one Lt. Chuka Anele, of the 13 Brigade, Calabar, was caught on camera pouring unknown substance on a corp member, Miss Ezeiruka Fidelis.
Shoda described the action as unprofessional and called for justice.
According to her, Nigerian women condemned the inhuman act meted on our daughter, the corp member by a female military officer.
”We agree that you (the military personnel) is to train the corp member, but such act as seen in the social media is not in the best interest of the nation.
”Corp members are our children and we need to care for them, the inhuman treatment is highly barbaric, unprofessional and unacceptable.
”We called for justice for Miss Fidelis to serve as deterrent to others,” she said.
Shoda, however, commended the Nigerian Army for its quick response to the unfortunate incident.
NAN reports that a video went viral showing a female military officer pouring unknown dirty substance on and hitting a female corps member who was forced to kneel down while the act went on.
The Nigerian Army, through its spokesperson, Brig.- Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, had since condemned the assault on the corps member.
The army further tendered an apology to the victim, her family members, friends, the NYSC and to Nigerians in general for the incident.(NAN)
