Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, Adamu Fika, has been accused of protecting personal interest in the appointment of National Assembly Clerk.
The Commission recently appointed Mr. Mohammed Sani Omolori, as the Acting Clerk of the National Assembly to replace Mr. Salisu Maikasuwa, who will be proceeding on terminal leave effective from May 14, 2016.
However, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki opposed the appointment, citing the need to follow seniority in the appointment of key Officers, hence, Benedict Efeturi, Deputy Clerk should have been appointed as Acting Clerk.
But in a new twist, some Commissioners dissociated themselves from the appointment of Mr. Omolori, saying there was no decision to that effect.
The Commissioners in a letter dated 26th and addressed to the Chairman of National Assembly Commission, Adamu Fika, stated in part, “It would appear that you have become overwhelmed by your personal interest to the detriment of the Commission integrity.
“We the under signed commissioners disassociate ourselves from your letter appointing Sani-Omolori as Acting Clerk of National Assembly and affirm that Ben Efeturi is the rightful person to assume that office based on seniority.
”Although you are the chairman of the Commission, you are not the commission.
“For above reasons, we cease to have confidence in your leadership and chairmanship of the commission.
The commissioners that signed the letter were Paul Oweh, Joseph Oru, Idi Ningi, Abel Chukwu, Funmi Lamuye, Abu Rufai, Stephen Yepwi.
