By Mohammed Yangida, Lafia Nasarawa state command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) has arrested the village Head of Koje village in the state for dealing in drugs and cultivation.
Briefing newsmen in Lafia on Friday, commander, Nasarawa state NDLEA, Mr. Sumaila Ethan said the village head was arrested in his palace in koje community of Nasarawa-Eggon local government area of the state on March 4th 2016 with bags of cannabis satira (india hemp) weighting about 12 kilograms.
Mr. Sumaila Ethan further explained that the village head confessed that he has been getting the supply of the deadly seeds for planting from a Fulani herdsman, adding that the 12 kilograms seized from him was the remnant of what he harvested from his farm.
The village head claimed that he wa not aware of the danger involved in the business, he appealed for mercy from the NDLEA.
Also, the state Command arrested 28 suspects while about 460 kilograms of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized from January 2016 to date.
The NDLEA boss who confirmed this also said 7 drugs barons were successfully prosecuted and convicted at the federal high court in Lafia, adding that 10 others were counseled and successfully rehabilitated.
He therefore called for collaboration with journalists, traditional and religious leaders, parents and guardians as well as members of the public to join hands with them to enable the Agency succeed on the enormous tasks ahead.
