Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill for a law to establish Nasarawa State Motor Vehicle Administration and Traffic Management Agency and other matters connected thereto.
The Speaker of the house, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, announced the passage of the bill after the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Daniel Ogazi, moved a motion to that effect during the ]house proceedings in Lafia.
The speaker said that the bill, if finally assented to by Gov. Abdullahi Sule, would regulate and control traffic, as well as generate revenue for the development of the state.
He said “the agency shall have responsibility for approval of registration of motor vehicles, issuance of certificates of title of motor vehicles.
“This will be done in a prescribed form to any applicant whose name appears on the vehicle registration form.
“Who provides evidence of ownership in respect of the motor vehicle, issuance and renewal of Motor Vehicle Licence and Driver’s licence and learner’s permit, among others.
“A bill for a law to establish Nasarawa State Motor Vehicle Administration and Traffic Management Agency and other matters connected thereto passed third reading”.
He also said that the establishment of the agency would create jobs in the state, thereby reducing unemployment and improving on the lives of the people.
The speaker directed the clerk of the house to produce a clean copy of the bill for the governor’s assent.
Earlier, the house moved a motion for the bill to scale third reading while the Minority Leader of the house, Mr Abel Bala, seconded the motion.
The house unanimously passed the bill into third reading.
