LAFIA – By Mohammed Yangida The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the 2016 Appropriation Bill of over N79 billion.
Speaker of the House Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, disclosed this at plenary, stressing the need for the budget to be passed.
Out of the over N79 billion approved by the House, the sum of N41 billion is for recurrent expenditure while the sum of N38 billion is for capital expenditure.
Tagged “Budget of Pragmatism”, the 2016 budget which was sent to the House by Governor Umaru Al-Makura on December 31st 2015 was over N77 billion.
According to the report which was presented by the acting chairman finance and appropriation committee, Hon.Muhammed Sani (APC Obi) recommended among others that the sum of N960 million be transferred from the ministry of works, transport and housing be committed to social services of the Assembly as constituency allowance, while the sum allocated to Greater Karu urban development board be expunged from the budget.
Speaking shortly after passing the 2016 budget, Speaker Abdullahi apologised to the people of the state for the delay in the passage of the budget, calling on the executive to ensure the budget is executed as passed.
