Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution reminding Governor Umaru Al-Makura to announce the dissolution of the elected Local Government officials whose tenure would expire on Thursday 24th March, 2016.
The house committee chairman on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Saeed Galadima moved a motion on the need to remind the state Governor to set machinery in motion for the dissolution of the present Local Government chairmen on 24th March 2016 having served for 2 year in office.
The motion was seconded by a member representing Udege /Loko constituency Mohammed Udege and supported by all the members.
According to the lawmakers, they will not break the law pointing out that the house has already obey the court judgment that set aside the local government law of 2013 as amended by the last Assembly given way for the present Local government chairmen and councilors to serve for 2 year not one year.
Announcing the resolution at the floor of the Assembly, the Deputy speaker, Godiya Akwashiki who presided over meeting adopted the decision of house and directed the clerk of the house, to notify the Governor on the need to dissolve the council chairmen and councilors with the exception of Keffi and Keana local government area because they did not take their oath of office the same day.
“My ruling stands that the tenure of the present Local Government officials in Nasarawa state is coming to an end on Thursday 24th March 2016.
“All machinery that will lead to the smooth handling over of the present administration to another and this is the decision of the house”.
