A businesswoman, Adenike Lawal on Wednesday sought from a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan the dissolution of her one-year-old marriage to her estranged husband, Muslim, on grounds that he is a drunk and a wife beater.
Lawal, who resides in Okota area of Lagos State added that Muslim often subjected her to battery at any slightest provocation.
“My lord, once Muslim beats her whenever he gets drunk and he does not provide for his family.
“Muslim has not done much concerning our childlessness.
“Not too long ago, Muslim threw out my belongings and refused to further allow me into his home,” Lawal stated.
However, Muslim was not in court when he was called to respond to the allegations leveled against him.
According to the court’s bailiff, hearing notices were served on him several times, but he declined court’s appearance.
Delivering judgment, the court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo held that there was not marriage to be dissolved between Lawal and Muslim because no valid traditional marriage subsisted between them. READ ALSO:
