The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), has advised registered voters across the country, living far from their Polling Units (PUs) to transfer their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to polling units nearest to them.
IPAC National Chairman, Mr Yabaji Sani, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.
He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the nationwide expansion of polling units done in 2021 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Sani said that it would be of advantage for registered voters living far, to move to polling units closest to them.
“Moving to the nearest polling units make voting easier on election day for registered voters. You will no longer need to travel long distance before you vote,” he said.
Sani said the council would soon come up with sensitisation programme across the country for registered voters to see the benefits of moving close to their polling units.
He expressed optimism that Nigerians would soon appreciate the benefits of what INEC did by creating more polling units
Sani also urged registered voters in the FCT to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate en masse in the Feb. 12 area councils election in the territory.
Sani said it was only through active participation in electoral processes that citizens could effect their desired positive change in any democracy.
He said the forthcoming election in the FCT was important, urging residents not to ignore it
“This election is really important for residents to participate and vote wisely,” he said.
Speaking on the amendment of the Electoral Bill, Sani commended the National Assembly for speeding up the readjustment process, after it was returned to lawmakers by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also commended President Buhari for introducing provisions for consensus candidates.
Sani praised Nigerians for standing against what they believed was not right and pressing for electronic transmission of results to deepen the country’s democracy.
He, however, urged President Buhari to ensure the Bill was signed into law without delay.
Sani, who is also the National Chairman of Action Democratic Party (ADP), said the ADP was ready to participate and win the Feb. 12 area councils election.
He urged residents to vote for ADP candidates in all the area councils.
“We do not just present credible and best candidates, we also have good programmes for the people because we feel their pains and want the best for the people and the FCT,” Sani said . (NAN)
