PSG are monitoring Jose Mourinho’s situation at Chelsea and will consider offering him a job should he be fired.
Mourinho is under huge pressure with the defending champions down in 15th place after taking just 11 points from their first 10 games and could be sacked if they lose their sixth Premier League match of the campaign against Liverpool on Saturday.
PSG currently have Laurent Blanc in charge but the owners are long-term admirers of Mourinho.
They tried to hire the Portuguese in 2011 and again in 2013 but the 52-year-old rejected them on both occasions.
Blanc was only given the post two years ago after Mourinho had opted to return to Chelsea and his contract expires at the end of the season.
The former France and Manchester United defender is already on course to win his third title in a row as PSG boast a seven-point lead at the top of Ligue 1.
However, Blanc’s prospects of staying in the role depend on how the team perform in the Champions League.
They have been knocked out in the quarter-finals for the last three seasons and a place in the last four is the minimum the owners expect this term.
Should the Chelsea manager become available, even a Champions League semi-final appearance might not be enough to save Blanc given Mourinho’s superb record in the competition, winning it with Porto and Inter Milan.
It has been reported that Mourinho’s representatives have already sounded out a move to the French capital or a return to former club Inter Milan as they begin to draw up contingency plans in case he leaves Stamford Bridge.
PSG have one of the best squads in Europe but owners Qatar Sports Investments are still prepared to make huge funds available for transfers.
Mourinho spoke about PSG’s approach earlier this year, saying: “I know the PSG project well, I know it well because when they start this project with the owner, the president and [former sporting director] Leonardo, I was to be the coach. I met them in Qatar, so I know the project well.
Mourinho’s current £8.5million-a-year salary would not be a problem for PSG and a move to France would give him an opportunity to win a championship in a fifth different country.
Meanwhile, Monaco shareholder Alessandro Proto claims his club have already been in contact with Mourinho over joining them.
“On Saturday night the first contact was made with Jose Mourinho about training Monaco,” Proto told Spanish newspaper Sport. “We are still in a very early stage but we are convinced that Mourinho could train Monaco.
