By Harry Awurumibe Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has urged Governors of the 36 states to consider adequate funding of their information managers in order to tackle the rampaging tide of Fake News.
Speaking on Monday in Abuja at the ongoing Two- Day Media Conference organized by the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Mohammed said that state governors need to provide adequate funding for their information managers.
According to him the governors have the responsibility to adequately fund the office of the Commissioners for Information, Special Advisers, Special Assistants and Public Relations Managers in order to counter Fake News against their principals.
He also adviced the information managers to double their efforts in addressing the emergence of Fake News and Misinformation especially by the Social media and mainstream media.
Mohammed said the present regime has been receiving the heat of Fake News and Misinformation in the face of the laudable achievements of the President Mohamadu Buhari led Federal Government.
Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Director General, NGF, Asishana Bayo Okauru said the Conference with the Theme: Governors’ Public Perception: changing The Narrative Agenda, could not have come at a better time than now there is so much misconceptions of the good intentions of the States Chief Executives.
