By: Gracious Akujobi Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi has directed all the newly inaugurated boards of sports federations not to conduct any sporting event without approval from the National sports commission (NSC).
Abdullahi, gave the directive Tuesday while inaugurating the boards at the national stadium f in Abuja, noting that 32 of the 41 National Sports Federations have successfully conducted their elections.
“The Federal Government will only support those Federations that have gold medal capacity at any international competitions. The era of jamboree is past and NSC has steered from the era of uncertainty to an era of greater participation,” he stated.
“As a further step towards the full democratization of our sports, all Federations are enjoined to encourage their sports association to imbibe the culture of constituting their boards through democratic process.
“I expect that within the next six months, all the Federations should submit the draft of their constitution and also to design their sports calendar in consonance with the calendar of the NSC and the global calendar.
“I am aware that the present size of the board which is pegged at 11 does not preclude any Federation from identifying credible Nigerians that can help in uplifting the sport to an appreciable level,” the Minister said.
The newly inaugurated sports federations are Nigeria Aquatics federation, Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Nigeria Cycling Federation, Nigeria Golf Federation, Nigeria Hockey Federation, Nigeria Kick-boxing Federation, Nigeria Rowing and Yachting Federation KungFu Federation, Nigeria Rugby Federation, Nigeria scrabble Federation and Nigeria Shooting Federation.
