Governor Olusegun Mimiko has been asked to carry on with the job of administering Ondo state as the Apex Court in land, Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the petitions filed against him by Olusola Oke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Rotimi Akeredolu of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria.
Both Akeredolu and Oke had filed appeal at the Apex Court, contesting the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that Mimiko of the Labour Party was duly re-elected.
Reading the lead judgment, Justice Mary Odili, contended that the petitioners lack grounds for seeking the court intervention to upturn the earlier ruling by the Election Petition Tribunal which upheld the re-election of Mimiko as duly elected Governor of Ondo state.
In the petition of Akeredolu, the Court averred that the allegation of multiple registrations against members of the Labour Party under which Mimiko contested was not proved beyond reasonable doubt.
“The two surviving issues lack merit and are therefore resolved in favour of the respondent”, Justice Sylvester Nguto read.
Governor Mimiko had earlier floored the petitioners at the Election Petition Tribunal.
