Manchester City defeated local rivals Manchester United 7-6 on penalties to win the 2024 Community Shield at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
The keenly contested game ended 1-1 in regulation time.
United thought they had won the game when Alejandro Garnacho gave them the lead in the 82nd minute.
Substitute Bernardo Silva however equalised for Pep Guardiola’s side one minute from time.
The game went straight into penalty with no extra-time, Prompt News reports.
After an extended shootout Manuel Akanji scored the decisive penalty for Manchester City after veteran United defender Johnny Evans hit his kick over the crossbar. READ ALSO:
