LAGOS – A 25-year-old man, Abiodun Dairo, who allegedly stole phones valued at N41,000 and forcefully had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl, was on Thursday remanded in prison, by a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Chief Magistrate Ipaye Nwachukwu ordered that the accused be remanded in prison, until the adjourned date, because the 15-year-old girl was in the hospital and bleeding seriously.
Nwachukwu said the bail condition of the accused would be announced when the victim would be out of the hospital and in a good state of health.
Dairo, whose address was not provided at the court, had pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge bordering on rape, unlawful sexual intercourse and sexual assault.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 26, at No. 13, Oyewo St., Itire, Lagos at about 11.00 p.m.
Osayande said the accused did unlawfully and forcefully, raped the 15-year-old girl by beating her and covering her mouth with a pillow.
She alleged that the accused, whose Guardians went for a party, trailed the girl after they both alighted from a bus.
“Dairo sneaked into the girl’s apartment when she went to have her bath.
“He ransacked the room and stole a Tecno phone valued at N35, 000 and a torchlight phone valued at N6, 500. The total value of the two phones was N41, 000.
“On getting to the room, the 15-year-old girl found the stranger in the room and the accused carried her to the bed and raped her.
“Neighbours heard her scream and they caught the accused in the act, but he ran, and he was given a hot chase and was caught on the third street.
“The girl has since then been bleeding seriously.’’
The offences contravened Sections 287, 261, 135 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The case was adjourned until Jan. 25, 2018 pending advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
