A police spokesperson said one woman who worked at the school had been wounded and taken to hospital.
It was not clear how serious her injuries were or what the motive for the incident was.
“Police have the situation on site under control,’’ a police statement said.
Bremerhaven police earlier said on Twitter that a “large operation’’ was under way, and advised residents to avoid the area in the city centre around the school.
Special Forces searched the school premises, where 200 students were present at the time of the shooting. Important examination is due to take place.
A school emergency plan went into force when the man entered early in the school day.
Meanwhile, students and teachers locked themselves in classrooms and spent several hours there. (dpa/NAN)
