A 35-year-old man, Richard Stephen, on Wednesday appeared before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing property worth N5 million from a shop.
Stephen, whose address was not provided, is facing charges of stealing, conspiracy and unlawful entry, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with two others still at large, on Nov. 11, at about 12.35a.m. along Shagari Road Barnawa, Kaduna.
Leo said the defendant broke into the shop of the complainant, Mr Kingsley Chike, and stole phones and laptops valued at N5 million.
He said that the complainant reported the case to the police and the defendant was arrested after investigation was made.
Leo said the offences violated Sections 241, 271 and 322 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Emmanuel ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
He added that the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Jan. 11, 2023, for hearing. (NAN)
