A 32-year-old man, Mohammad Ahmad, on Tuesday, appeared in a Kano Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly inflicting injuries on his girlfriend, Habiba Bello.
Ahmad, who resides at Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano, pleaded guilty to a count charge of causing grievous hurt.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Aluta Mijinyawa, had told the court that the case was reported by one Habiba Bello, at Sabon Gari Police Station, Kano, on Sept.3.
Mijinyawa said that on Aug. 26 at about 9 p.m. while the complainant was in her hotel room at Royal Hotel, Sabon Gari, Kano, she had a mere argument with the accused.
“In the process the accused used hot electric iron and inflicted a serious injury on his girlfriend’s hand and shoulder.
“The accused refused to take her to the hospital; instead he took her to a local chemist for treatment,” he said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 243 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Hajiya Fatima Adamu, ordered the remand of the accused in prison and adjourned the case until Oct. 4 for summary trial.
