An Akure Magistrates’ Court has sentenced one Sheu Gambo to three calendar month imprisonment at Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure without an option for stealing 13 bunches of plantain and banana worth N65,000.00
Mr Damilola Sekoni, the Court’s Magistrate said that he had considered the fact that the convict pleaded guilty on a-one count charge without wasting the precious time of the court.
Sekoni said that the court gave the convict a short prison term because it considered some serious bruises that the convict sustained attributed to series of beatings when being caught in the stealing act.
Earlier, the convict’s counsel, Mr Abdulsalam Musa, asked the court to show leniency to the convict because he did not waste the time of the court and that he had already sustained serious wounds on his body.
Musa added that the convict must have learnt his lesson from the beating he had got.
The convict did steal the items, the goods of one Christiana Ushe, on July 8, 2023 at Akungba Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.
