The police, on Friday, arraigned a 43-year-old man, Chibike Nwakedi, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his wife.
The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.
The police prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 3 at about 8:00 p.m behind Bovas filling station in Ado-Ekiti.
Adeniyi alleged that the defendant assaulted his wife, Blessing Nwakedi, by hitting her right leg with his leg against the bed as a result; she sustained dislocation on her right leg.
He alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 186 and 181(D)of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him. READ ALSO:

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until March 28, for hearing. (NAN)
