An Osogbo Magistrate’s Court on Friday sentenced a 27-year-old man, Saheed Abioye, to 10 months imprisonment for stealing a telephone handset.
The Magistrate, Mr Taofeeq Badmus, sentenced the convict following his plea of guilt for the offence.
The magistrate said that the convict did deserve an option of fine in the conviction due to the magnitude of the offence.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Olaiwola Rasaki, had told the court that Abioye committed the offence at about 1.45 p.m. on July 11, at Oke-Baale area of Osogbo.
Rasaki said the convict stole a Microsoft telephone valued at N40, 000, property of one Oyelade Monsurat, without her consent.
He said that the offence contravened section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defence counsel, Mr Ranegous Ugwu, had pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing his client.
