A Dutse Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 26-year-old man, Pius Oryiman, to six months in a correctional facility for attempting to steal electrical wires.
The Judge, Mr Suleiman Mohammed, sentenced Oryiman after he found him guilty of the charges filed against him.
Mohammed, however, gave the defendant a fine option of N10,000.
The convict, who gave no fixed address, was charged with trespass and attempt to commit an offence.
He pleaded guilty to the charges, and begged the court to tamper justice with mercy.
The Police prosecutor, Mr Tunde Arowolo, had told the court that one Sangodeyi Adeoyi of Kuduru village in Bwari, reported the matter at the Bwari Police Station, on Nov. 23.
Arowolo quoted Adeoyi as alleging that the defendant trespassed into the complainant’s compound and damaged his neighbour’s ceiling in an attempt to steal electrical wires and was apprehended.
He said that during investigation, the defendant confessed to committing the crimes.
Arowolo told the court that the offences contravened sections 343 and 95 of the Penal Code.
