For the third consecutive time, Mamelodi Sundowns women football team of South played a final where they secured their second title in the history of the CAF Women’s Champions League, overcoming Sporting Club Casablanca 3-0, who made their debut in the competition.
Sundowns’ goals came through a brace by forward Refilwe Tholakele in the 21st and 78th minutes, respectively, while Boitumelo Rabale also scored in the 24th minute for the Blue and Yellow.
Sundowns are now winners of the continental showpiece for a second time following their triumph in the maiden edition in 2021 just as the club lost in the 2022 finals to ASFAR of Morocco to make it the first club in Africa to win the newly introduced CAFWCL title twice in three years. It won the Silver medal in the 2022 edition.
Also, Mamelodi Sundowns men club recently lifted the maiden African Football League (AFL) title after Sundowns defeated another Moroccan club, Wydad Casablanca 2-0 in the second leg of the AFL final in Pretoria a week ago. Sundowns, who had lost 2-1 a week earlier in Morocco, overcame their deficit thanks to goals from Peter Shalulile (45th+3rd) and Aubrey Modiba (53rd).
