Apparently to show Federal Government’s seriousness, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) has ordered the prosecution of offenders of the Federal Government ban on Twitter operations in Nigeria.
A statement issued by Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, Minister’s Spokesman, said the AGF directed the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF) at his office to swing into action and commence in earnest the process of prosecution of violators of the Federal Government De-activation of operations of Twitter in Nigeria.
“The DPPF is to liase with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, National Communication Communication (NCC) and other relevant government agencies to ensure the speedy prosecution of offenders without any further delay,” the statement said.
Prompt News reports that FG Friday, through the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed announced the suspension of the operation of Twitter in Nigeria following the microblogging company’s deletion of what it perceived as provocative Tweets on the Nigerian- Biafran Civil War by President Muhammadu Buhari during the week.
