By Paul Efiong Nigerian Government has requested for an arrest warrant on a former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke and others.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) on Monday presented the request before Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Mr. Johnson Ojogbane, counsel to the EFCC made the request orally.
He was however, asked by the presiding Justice Tsoho to file a formal application for arrest warrant on the former Minister.
Mr Adoke is being charged with illegal transfer of over $800 million in connection with the purchase of Oil Prospecting License, OPL 245 to a former Minister of Petroleum, Don Etete and Malabu Oil.
The case has been adjourned to June 13, 2017.
Prompt News recalls that Nigerian Government is contesting the manner considered ‘fraudulent’ in which the controversial OPL 245 was transferred to international oil giants, ENI and Shell.
Consequently, the EFCC sought and got an interim court orders on forfeiture of OPL 245 to the Nigerian Government in January, 2017.
Justice Tsoho, who gave the order also directed the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to manage the oil block pending the determination of the ongoing case now known as the Malabu Oil deal.
