Niger Tornadoes head coach, Majin Mohammed, believes that their 4-1 thrashing of Sunshine Stars in Sunday’s Matchday 17 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) was down to “collective effort.”
Tornadoes raced into a four-goal lead inside the opening half an hour of the contest with Ernest Onyeka, Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai, Abba Khalid and Godstime Joseph scoring before Ibrahim Sodiq netted late in the second half for Sunshine Stars.
Majin is happy that his side are aiming to finish strong with the first round of the season reaching its end.
He added that the changes he made to the matchday squad also paid off since some of the players needed rest after playing back-to-back games non-stop.
“The victory was a result of collective effort from the management, coaches and the players.
“The first stanza is gradually winding off and we need to put our acts together to win our home matches to consolidate our position on the league table.
“We needed to ring some changes in the team, because some players have been over played and needed rest, that necessitated the change in our line up today to give others the opportunity and you can see that the players want to take advantage to cement a place in the team,” said Majin to his club’s media.
The Niger Tornadoes also took time to speak on their opponents and his side’s approach in the build-up to the match at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna.
“Sunshine Stars are a good side, the testament is the draw in Aba against Enyimba and knowing well that they will come here with the same mentality we decided to approach the game with all seriousness and the result is what you just saw,” said Majin.
Majin and his men will now prepare for a trip to the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano to face former champions Kano Pillars on Sunday, December 22, 2024.
