President of Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari has congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan, on his 56th birthday, saying the Nigeria leader’s support and encouragement for
Nigeria football is the reason for the several successes recorded in the outgoing year.
Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA U-17 World Cup, while the Super Eagles easily grabbed a 2014 FIFA World Cup ticket and the Eagles Team B reached the African Nations Championship for the first time, among other accomplishments.
But Maigari contended that these strides would not have been possible without the active support
of President Jonathan.
“The Nigeria Football Federation and the entire Nigeria football family wishes Mr. President long life, prosperity and many more years of active support and love for Nigeria football. We are enamoured by
his keen interest in the development of the Nigeria game.
“Mr. President’s special interest in the development of Nigeria football is matched by his commitment to providing the resources for our National Teams to excel internationally and his encouragement of
our players through cash and other rewards after impressive outings,” Maigari said.
President Jonathan has personally visited training sessions of the Super Eagles at least on two occasions in the past 15 months, inspiring the boys to qualify for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations
(which they won in South Africa) and also the 2014 FIFA World Cup, appearing at team’s only training session in Addis Ababa on the eve of a vital 2-1 away win in the final elimination fixture.
Maigari added: “Our leader is truly transforming Nigeria football, nay Nigeria sports, and we pray for several more years ahead for him to take our sports to higher heights.”
