By Gracious Akujobi President of Wrestling Federation of Nigeria, Daniel Igali, has said that the Federation will hold the first Governor Seriake Dickson Cup championship in Bayelsa from December 16-21.
In a chat with Prompt News Online, Igali revealed that the Chairman, Commonwealth Federation Josip Mrkosi will grace the event.
“The Governors’ Cup will be for all wrestlers across the country. I am happy we will have as guest Chairman Commonwealth Federation, Josip Mrkosi, who has never visited Africa but will be coming to Nigeria,” he disclosed.
The Wrestling Federation Boss also said that the Wrestlers will begin a two weeks camping in Yenagoa to prepare for a Commonwealth Championship which is billed to take place from December 3-7 in Johannesburg.
According to him, “From this weekend our wrestlers will start a two weeks camp in Bayelsa in preparation for Commonwealth Championship in Johannesburg.
“This Jo’Burg championship will be for us a gauge on what to expect and how to prepare for the Commonwealth Games proper.
“A lot of countries are going to be there so we are going to get firsthand knowledge of what other countries are doing as well as to prepare for the Commonwealth Games”
On camping for next year’s Commonwealth Games, Igali stated that it will be in conjunction with the National Sports Commission (NSC), adding that it will commence by early next year.
