By Gracious Akujobi The League Management Company (LMC) and the Premier league club owners have reached an agreement to do away with sign on fees for premier league players.
The agreement was reached at a meeting held by both parties in Abuja where the issue of sign on fees was thoroughly deliberated upon.
LMC had earlier told the Club owners to pay their players a minimum wage of N100, 000 (a hundred thousand naira) but some of them were said to have kicked against it, saying it was on a high side for them.
“Sign on fees is just difficult to manage, but anyway we have generally agreed to scrap sign on fees,” Chairman of LMC, Nduka Irabor told Prompt News Online.
He stated further, “We have agreed with the club owners that if we are scraping sign on fees then they have to pay the players better minimum wage”.
Having shelved sign on fees, both parties agreed to up the minimum wage for players to N150, 000. Irabor said, “We have now put the minimum wage at one hundred and fifty thousand naira”.
Meanwhile, the LMC has announced that the 2013/2014 Glo Premier League season will now kick-off on February 21.
