The Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Comrade Chinedu Ogah, has referred to the action of the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, on the issue of IPPIS as deceptive.
Comrade Ogah expressed this view in reaction to ASUU strike, calling on the union to take a fitting step into the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), saying that such will enable them earn their salaries.
Prompt News recalls that ASUU had gone into strike before the academic lockdown of all institutions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The National President of ASUU is working in a State University and he is receiving his salaries and all his entitlements every month. He is now deceiving those that are working in Federal Universities not to queue into IPPIS so that they will not receive their own salaries and pay the school fees of their children and solve their other financial problems,” Ogah posited.
The Lawmaker noted that universities of Maiduguri, Jos, etc have complied by joining the system in question, while the ASUU President still deceives people.
Meanwhile, Ogah called for less delay over the issue and further enjoined all Federal University Vice Chancellors of Southeast institutions to hasten up and do the needful and in turn called them to support the good works of President Buhari.
Prompt News gathered that ASUU requested an interval of one year and 6 months to enable them sit up against IPPIS for an alternative system of payment known as University Transparency and Accountability System, UTAS.
